The
Department of Internal Medicine is associated with
a large urban university medical center. The
faculty are expected to develop an active clinical
practice and initiate/further develop an
independent academic research career.
The positions are associated with the
teaching of residents and medical students.
The
Wayne State University School of Medicine is the
nation’s largest single-campus medical school in
the country, with over 700 faculty, 1,000 medical
students and more than 400 graduate students. As
the only medical school in Detroit, WSU has a
stated mission to improve the overall health of
the community. As part of this mission, the School
has established, with the help of a $6 million NIH
grant, the Center for Urban & African-American
Health to seek new ways to redress health
disparities by identifying preventive strategies
and therapeutic approaches to chronic diseases
that plague this population, namely obesity,
cardiovascular disease and cancer.
The
candidate must be eligible for licensure to
practice medicine in the State of Michigan and
certified by the American Board of Internal
Medicine. Fellowship
training or advanced training beyond residency is
desirable. Evidence
of successfully completed scholarly research is
also desirable but not required.
Academic rank is commensurate with
experience. Wayne
