As
a major academic center of excellence, we are
seeking individuals with a strong belief and
commitment to clinical and academic excellence.
The Department of Surgery currently has 23 general surgery residents in
training. This position includes teaching medical
students and residents and requires the ability to
pursue clinical or basic research.
Clinical services provided will include general
surgery care support for the Level 1 trauma center
at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. The
position is 80% clinical, 10% teaching and 10%
research. The position is a full time Health
Professions track position with rank commensurate
with academic qualifications and experience.
The
Community:
Lansing
is Michigan’s State Capitol, with a population
of 250,000. Lansing
boasts the influence of state government, Michigan
State University (MSU) and the automotive industry
(recently awarded contracts to build two General
Motors assembly plants).
Lansing and the surrounding area have
several school systems that consistently exceed
averages for the State’s MEAP scores.
For the sports enthusiast, there are 38
golf courses in the Lansing area and several lakes
for boating and fishing.
Approximately an hour and 15-minute drive
from Lansing are several professional sports teams
including the Detroit Lions, Red Wings, Pistons
and 2006 American League Champion Tigers.
All
candidates must be board certified/eligible in
surgery and must possess the desire and ability to
successfully participate in the teaching and
research performed in the division. Interest in
bariatric, minimally invasive or hepatobiliary
surgery would be helpful.
